Why Abstraction?

Because
Emotions are like waves 
rising and falling
Only when you move with them
do they begin to soften
You learn how to sit on the wave

Because
Emotions are like the wind
coming and going
Only when you are grounded in uncertainty
can they move through
You learn how to stand in the wind

Because
Everyone carries an inner child
Only when you open the cage
can you become whole
You learn to say: i need a hug

Why Abstraction began with conversations. I invited seven Chinese women, including myself, to talk about their lives, not with a predetermined set of questions, but through open, ongoing dialogue. The project developed through abstract watercolor, acrylic and oil painting, organza installation, sound, video, and spatial installation. Organza connected the three works—sit on the wave, stand in the wind, i need a hug—both visually and by embodying the project's central idea of opacity. Each work became an artistic translation of fragments of lived experience and emotion into color, movement, material, and space.

It is a project about listening, conversation, artistic translation, and relation without complete understanding. The most important thing is about: People do not need to become fully visible or completely knowable to be encountered with care and respect.
