Dreamlike

White clouds
mock my earnestness,
though they seem quiet.

Mock
my drifting drive
my slow swimming,
my clenched teeth under weight.

I look up, slightly dazed,
so flawlessly white,
so easy to love,
nothing to explain.

I only want, only want,
before they fade into the dark,
to stay with them
a little longer.

If I could stay by their side,
maybe they would never disappear.

I don’t want to feed sad,
that would harden
my heart.
